ನಗರಾಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿ ಪ್ರಾಧಿಕಾರದ ವ್ಯಾಪ್ತಿಯು 300 ಚದುರ ಕಿ.ಮೀ. ವಿಸ್ತೀರ್ಣವಿದ್ದು, ಹಿಂದಿನ ನಗರಸಭಾ ವ್ಯಾಪ್ತಿಯ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಹಿಂದಿನ 5 ಮಂಡಲ ಪಂಚಾಯ್ತಿಯ ವ್ಯಾಪ್ತಿಗೆ ಸೇರಿದ್ದ 24 ಗ್ರಾಮಗಳು ಈಗ ಹೊಸದಾಗಿ ನಗರಸಭೆಗೆ ಸೇರ್ಪಡೆಗೊಂಡಿದ್ದು ಅವುಗಳೂ ನಗರಾಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿ ಪ್ರಾಧಿಕಾರದ ವ್ಯಾಪ್ತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬರುತ್ತವೆ.

    ತುಮಕೂರು ನಗರವು ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಒಂದು ಸುಂದರ ಹಾಗೂ ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ ನಗರವಾಗಿದೆ. ಪ್ರಾಚೀನ ಹಾಗೂ ಐತಿಹಾಸಿಕ ಹಿನ್ನೆಲೆಯುಳ್ಳ ಈ ನಗರವು ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ರಾಜಧಾನಿಯಾದ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನಿಂದ 70 ಕಿ.ಮಿ. ಈಶಾನ್ಯ ದಿಕ್ಕಿನಲ್ಲಿದ್ದು ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ರಾಜಧಾನಿಯಾದ ಮೈಸೂರಿನಿಂದ ಉತ್ತರಕ್ಕೆ ಸುಮಾರು 165 ಕಿ.ಮಿ. ದೂರದಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಸುಮಾರು 15 ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಗಳಿಂದ ಜನ ರಾಜಧಾನಿ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರನ್ನು ತಲುಪಬೇಕಾದರೆ, ತುಮಕೂರು ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಹೆದ್ದಾರಿ - 206 ಮೂಲಕವೇ ಹಾದುಹೋಗಬೇಕಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.

    ತುಮಕೂರು ನಗರವು ಇತ್ತೀಚಿನ ವರ್ಷಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಆರ್ಥಿಕವಾಗಿ, ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕವಾಗಿ, ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕವಾಗಿ ದಿನೇ ದಿನೇ ಬೆಳೆಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದು ರಾಜಧಾನಿ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಉಪನಗರದಂತಿದ್ದು ರಾಜಧಾನಿಗೆ ಪರ್ಯಾಯವಾದ ಜನ ವಸತಿ ಪ್ರದೇಶ ಕೂಡ ಆಗುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಅದೂ ಅಲ್ಲದೇ ಉತ್ತರ ಭಾರತದ ನಗರಗಳಿಗೆ ಸಂಪರ್ಕ ಕಲ್ಪಿಸುವ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಹೆದ್ದಾರಿ-4 ಕೂಡ ಈ ನಗರದ ಮೂಲಕ ಹಾದುಹೋಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ.

    ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಸಮೀಪದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ತುಮಕೂರು ನಗರವು ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ, ಕೈಗಾರಿಕ ಹಾಗೂ ವಾಣಿಜ್ಯ ಕೇಂದ್ರವಾಗಿ ಬೆಳೆಯುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಇದಕ್ಕನುಗುಣವಾಗಿ ಜನಸಂಖ್ಯೆಯೂ ಹೆಚ್ಚುತ್ತಿರುವುದರಿಂದ ಪರಿಸರ ಸಮತೋಲನ ಕಾಪಾಡುವುದು ಮತ್ತು ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕರಿಗೆ ನಾಗರಿಕ ಸೌಲಭ್ಯಗಳನ್ನು ಒದಗಿಸುವುದು ನಮ್ಮ ಘನ ಸರ್ಕಾರದ ಮೊದಲ ಆದ್ಯತೆಯಾಗಿದೆ.
